In-service
Course and Hospitality Services for Guangdong English Teachers
A 3 week In-service Course
for Guangdong Primary/Secondary School English Teachers, jointly organised by
the Guangdong Education Department, the Hong Kong Education Bureau (EDB) and
the English Department of the HKIEd, has been held ten times in HKIEd since the
collaboration among the three parties started in 1999.
Each time a total of 40 teachers and researchers from different
parts of Guangdong Province, led by an official from the Guangdong Education
Bureau, participated in the Course. The major aim of the Course was to further
develop the professionalism of these teachers and researchers through reflecting
upon the principles and practice of English language teaching and learning. The
participants had to complete seven modules on the Course and pay three school visits to local and international
schools to observe different education systems in action and draw implications
for their own curriculum. During the Course
the participants stayed in our Jockey Club Student Quarters to experience the
life as full-time students on campus for three weeks.
The Course has benefited not
only teachers and researchers from Guangdong but also enabled academic staff
from the English Department of the HKIEd to understand more about the English
language curriculum and the needs of the English teachers in China, who has
become a source of the Institute¡¦s target students.
